SCAD is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which accredits many of the universities in the Southeastern United States such as Auburn University, Duke University, and Emory University. While it is up to individual universities to determine transfer of credit guidelines, regional accreditation is widely recognized and it is unlikely you would have any trouble transferring credit or attending graduate school elsewhere.
We will review your existing credits for transfer, which will depend on factors such as the content of the class and whether it fits into your curriculum here at SCAD. You may need to take the basic classes here if you have not already taken a similar class that we are able to transfer, but you can discuss those details with your admission counselor to get a better idea of exactly which classes will still be required.
We recommend applying at least 6 months early for better scholarship opportunities, but applying early will not necessarily affect your admission status. Admission is strongly focused on academics, such as GPA and either SAT or ACT scores, and you can enhance your application with optional materials like letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose essay. Applying early can also allow you to begin working with an admission adviser for individual admission and financial aid assistance.
We don’t have a public checklist available, but you can email the admission department at admission@scad.edu to see if we have already approved your current college for transfer credits, and you can also read over our guidelines for transfer credit. Once you apply, your assigned transfer admission counselor will review your transcript for transferable credit on an individual basis.
Yes! We have Club SCAD in Savannah and the SCAD Atlanta Fitness Center in Atlanta. The class schedule changes each quarter, but yoga is popular and usually offered.
If you’re applying to SCAD as an undergraduate student, a portfolio is optional and does not need to match your intended major. You can look at portfolio guidelines and a helpful Portfolio Preparation Brochure at www.scad.edu/portfolio.
Yes, that would be fine! It’s a good idea to begin the application process early so that you can start working with an admission counselor. We recommend sending the rest of your materials by mid-February for the best scholarship opportunities, but we don’t have a strict deadline. You can also submit your application materials earlier if you’d like, we can review for admission and scholarships for Fall 2013 as soon as you’re ready.
Your file will go up for review once all your application materials have been received, and the undergraduate admission review takes about 2-4 weeks.
A MFA takes about two years to complete as a full-time student, but if you choose to study part-time, you will have up to five years to complete the graduate program.
Here is what our housing policy says:
